It's not Christmas Bob, it's Sinterklaas, it's a bit like Christmas. It's real cool because some of the people who live in the Netherlands celebrate Christmas too, so then you have two celebrations where you get presents. Sinterklaas is a bishop who is hundreds of years old and he arrives in the Netherlands half november and then gives children sweets and chocolate letters like the one you got. he puts them in their shoes!!! (like in the christmas sock when you celebrate christmas). The children put something nice in their shoes (standing by the fireplace or the heating), carrots for Sinterklaas his horse, and drawings for Sinterklaas and they sing a song. Next morning the shoe is filled with sweets and chocolat and sometimes a little present. THat goes on for a few weeks and then at 5 december there's his real birthday and then all the children and adults that have behaved good get presents, Most of the time with a funny poem about something they like or did or did do wrong last year. Sinterklaas knows everything you do so you have to be very honest and nice. ;-). I even read that Santa Claus in England/America his name comes from the Dutch word Sinterklaas, from when the immigrants came from Holland to America, but I don't know if that's for real....Glad you like your presents!

oooh...I've been looking all over for those Dutch cookies ever since I saw some in a small town where my sister lives. I think her little store carries them because a lot of Dutch people live in the area...but, so far...can't find them here even though we are a big city. I must track down a little Dutch shop... somewhere .... or... try to make my sister somehow remember them. She has some problems with her memory though...and probably will never figure it out... maybe next time I visit her , we can find them again.....

What lovely gifties....

yes indeed.... bloggy buddies are the best!!
