No hobnobs where I live, so I'll just trust the bears.
I was also rooting for chocolate, you can't ever go wrong there.

This video was 100% cute.

i'm with meanie. since when are cookies called "biscuits". Is this a nose/snout thing, too???

Here's why "biscuits" are "cookies" in the US- I'll post this on Chuck's too, cos he's asking about it over there!!

-"Cookie" comes from a Dutch word meaning "little cake".
"Biscuit" comes from the French words "bis" and "cuir", meaning "twice baked".

They were baked and then baked again to take out the moisture so that they would last on board ships on long voyages, but would have been savoury back then (16th century England).

When the French settled in North US they brought their own little "twice bakeds" with them but these were like little dumplings or cobblers, not cookie-looking at all, and eaten in soups or gravy.

So! Because people in the US were already using the word "Biscuit" to mean these little doughy things, you used the Dutch word to describe the flat baked thing, "cookie".

So US cookies and UK biscuits mean the same, and the confusion is all the fault of the French.

But as for "since when were cookies called biscuits?" the question is sort of the wrong way round as biscuits came first!

Bobber!

I'm SO RELIEVED that you caught that historic taste-test on film! My girl is a BIG Hobnobs fan, and loves McVitties dark chocolate covered wheat biscuits, but just had a feeling the Milk Chocolate Hobnobs would win, paws down! (She's been known to eat those in a pinch).

She got hooked on McVitties products when she used to spend time in Hong Kong. She has fond fond memories of those biscuits.

Thanks for making my girl smile & me crack up! You and the bears are AMAZING! I totally trust your judgment.

Goober love & smooches,
Stanley

Wow Bob, what a great film and so educational! I knew you all had taste and would kick those cheap insposters into touch. Did you all feel very sick afterwards though, I mean ALL those biscuits?

Hi, I just dropped by. This is so cute and funny! I couldn't stop laughing. A lot of hard work, huh? It made my day. Thanks!

Seems to me the test was biased (from the French meaning 2 bums) heavily towards biscuits with oats and golden syrup. What, pray, about ye olde ginger nuts????

But then agen, oaty bic's ar my fayvrit so I spose yu cud see it az the premier leeg. In the chmpyunship there wud defnitly be ginger biccies. Tho I wud hav ginger crunches, not ginger snaps, as the snaps ar a bit hard.

I'd also hav Bourbons. They're not grayte but they ar very moorish wen dunkt.

Hehehee.
