HULLO NOT-A-BEARS!

Well, werk on my new film is goin OK. I showd a bit ov it to Mummy, an I cud tell she waz imprest coz she lost all consentrayshun an nokt over her record-braykin stack ov yewsd tea-bags by the kettol. (29! Wow! That IS good.) But I hav come away from my Direktin werk becoz Grayum gayv me a tug on the eer-lobe this mornin an remindid me that I never got rownd to tellin yu abowt Sherwood Forest.

Sum ov yu may recall that wen we cayme bak from Yorkshire the other week we stopt in Nottinghamshire on the way cos sum of us wer in need ov tea, sum wer in need ov a wee, an sum wantid to chek owt the faymuss woods ov Sherwood Forest an maybe leev a few deposits, like wat Bears do.

Well! It jus goze to show how storeez get chaynged down the yeers, duzzent it? I meen, did yu kno that Robin Hood waz reelly a Bear???? He waz bizzy in his offiss, but he cayme to the windo so me an Grayum cud hav a foto wiv him:
The band ov Merry Bears arskt me to joyne, but I thort the kit lookt a bit too much like a dress, to be onnist....

we fownd a big oak tree an wer lookin forwood to doin a speshol poo by it, but do yu kno, we werent allowd to! They sed that the tree waz so old it had to be lookt arfter, an so they put a fence rownd it. I arsk yu! How do they think it reecht such a ripe old age, wivowt sum ripe old Bears droppin by to drop sum droppins by it from time to time? Sum peepol, they kno nothin!
Wyle we pozed fer the foto in frunt ov the big oak, a man cayme up an put a sticker on Grayum's jumper!
I waz goin to do a kararty "Phwah!" on him, an chew his leg off, coz Mummy always told us to beware ov men givin owt pressies in the woods. But she sed it waz OK, an he waz jus collektin fer a charity or sumthin.

Well! this is wat I keep tellin Grayum, that the sticker waz fer a charity. But he thinks it is a medol, fer HIM. An werse, it sez "Living Legend" on it. So now he thinks heez It:

Wich kinda brings me bak to this mornin, an him tuggin my eer-lobe. This is the vew I woke up to:
It waz a shok, I can tell yu. I had to promiss to tell yu all abowt him bein a Livin Legend. It waz that or risk loozin an eer. An I carnt do that. A spy has to hav wun eer forward an wun eer bak. If I lost wun, how wud I signal to other Bear Spys?

I do hope that sticker gets unstuck soon......

Bye fer now!

HULLO NOT-A-BEARS!

Weer off to Granny's tomorro, an weel be bak Tewsday. But befor we go, I wantid to show yu sum pikchers ov a big playse we sor wen we wer up in Yorkshire. It was calld Mallum Cove.

It looks like a big cliff-

wiv a littol streem comin owt ov the bottom ov it-

so wat is it?

Well, a long, long time ago, like wen Daddy waz smoll, a big river rusht along a valley an fell off this cliff, so reelly where yu can see the cliff, there yewst to be a hewge warter-fall.

But wat happend is, the warter seept into the rock, becos it's calld limestone, an it's pawruss. It sank down down down into the rock till there waz no river eny mor, an no warter-fall, just a littol trickol ov warter comin out the bottom, wich is this stream:

that's Daddy in the bakgrownd, that is.

but we had been walkin over the hills all day, and so cayme to this playse at the TOP ov it! This is Mummy lookin a bit scared, cos she duzzent like hites very much:

Heer's a vew ov the top ov thecliff, the old warter-fall:

see that curvd line goin down? That's the steps. We had to go across the top ov the cove an down those steps. (I thort "WOW!" and lookt forward to a mega slide down a bannister! But they dident hav wun. So I rode in Mummy's rucksack insted. Whilst tukt up in there, I cowntid the steps. There wer 417. Dilly cowntid them too. She sez there wer 2.)

So heer we ar, crossin the top ov the cove:

Dilly is bein camo-flarged in this next pikcher. Can yu see her?

The rocks up there are like big smooth lumpy stuff. Daddy sez that they wer mayde this way by the old rushing warter, wen it waz a warter fall. I arskt him if he had a foto from those days, but he dident. WOW he is even older than fotography.

Dilly sez that Meanie told her that the rocks look like this cos they are reelly old dragon poo gon hard, from long ago "wen wagons woamed the Ingwlish countwyside".

(Good greeeeeef.)

Arfter all this I waz a tired Bear. So wen we got bak to the hotel, me an Daddy shared a very speshol beer:

Wa-heyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bye fer now!

HULLO NOT-A-BEARS!

OK. Time to tell yu a bit abowt where we all stayd.

It waz in a town calld Harrogate. Wiv apologies to non-UK peeps hoo mite not get wat I meen, if Harrogate wer a person, it wud be Nicholas Parsons. Cleen, cheery, well-kept, old, tasteful, an not very cool, but NIce, wiv a capitol NI. Oh, an lots ov trees. Not that he haz eny trees growin on 'im. Tho he may well be bein preservd wiv a bit ov lime, he's that old.
photo: Nicholas Parsons. And this is wen he HAD hair.

Larst Tewsday I went off to explor the town that wud be my home* fer the nex few days.

It all lookt fairly harmless, if a bit flowery, but then I fownd THIS playse:
There waz NO WAY I waz goin in there!

They hav lots ov green bits wiv flowers an on wun green bit I spottid this statew, sadly disappoyntin in its pantlessness (aha! Pantlessness...Nicholas.... pantlessness...knickerless.... the similarity deepens...):

"Look, Ma, no pants!"

They had buslin streets:

an the local Bears obviussly wernt doin their bit, not on the marrygolds, enyway. Look how tiny they ar! I tryd to comfert this wun an squoze wun out to help it along:

This cafe an tea room on the corner is calld "Bettys" an annoyd Daddy cos it dident hav an apostrophy (teachers on holiday- pah!). But we still cayme bak to it dinner layter. It waz yum. An they did hewge caykes, too, an even had speshol choklits fer Bears!:

Hey, wat happend to this? I dident eet it! I bet Mummy's got it sumware an is hopin I've fergotten bowt it....

An I took this pic throo their windo speshly fer my frend Mousie. It is speshol bred jus fer mouse-types. If yu look closely yu'll see a littol mouse shape mayde owt ov dough on the top:Finally, it had lots of WOODS! This is the start ov a path into sum woods there. Can yu can see a cheeky grey skwirrol runnin along the path? I dident kno it waz there wen I took the foto!:heer's a close up ov 'im: I layter trakt him down. He waz tryin to be camo-flarged but yu carnt out-flarge a trayned Spy:

"Wa-heyyy!"

Hope that givs yu a taster ov Harrogate. If yu want to see mor, this website duzz 3D vertual tors ov the town, so yu can clik on an hav a gud nose arownd!

Bye fer now!

*home: home is where yor pants ar, an my Emergensy Hug Pants cayme wiv me.

HULLO NOT-A-BEARS!

Sorry fer the delay in postin today, folks. I've been in a legol dispewt wiv Grayum, over permishun to publish a holiday de-breef on him.

Ferst I had to reashor him it waz nothin to do wiv takin away his pants, an then I had to agree to list his reezons fer not joynin in and not say that he waz a layzy old killjoy.

OK.

Wile we wer owt explorin, Grayum did this:

His reezons ar as follows:

  1. he's aged
  2. he's a Bear (actually, that reezon dident stand up fer very long, that wun)
  3. he wantid to wotch old re-runs ov Hawaii 5-O an Quincy on the hotel-room TV in the arftanoon.

He must hav gon owt at SUM poynt, but he won't admit it. (Mummy gets annoyd if we go out alone. I think it's mostly cos weer alot shorter than cars. But I sed to her. I sed, weer also short enuff to hitch lifts in passin ruksaks wivowt their owners knowing. But she jus slammed a few doors wen I sed that.)

Enyway this is another thing we had to disagree abowt. He sez he stayd in the room an that I dident miss owt on eny adventchers. But so then HOW did he manage to get THIS foto on the camera, eetin a WALLABY bar, wich ar OSTRAYLIAN (the bar. AND wallabys.) wich issent even IN Yorkshire larst time I lookt at a map???? Eh? Eh???

The misterie continews...

Bye fer now!

HULLO NOT-A-BEARS!

Wen we wer in Yorkshire I notist that there ar lots ov hills. (I'm observant, I am.) An wen peepol go there they mostly look at those hills.

I'm good at lookin at things. Bein a Spy issent all abowt skiing downhill in a soopt up car an watchin laydies walk out ov the sea in just their undies (wa-heyy!). Oh no. A lot ov spying is jus lookin. So wen they sed we wer off fer a walk in the Dales to look at the vews, I waz alreddy kwite prepared.

Heer we all ar, owt fer a walk:

L-R: Daddy, Dilly, me, Mummy. Exsept it's a shadow, so weer reelly R-L. Possibly.

There ar lots ov fields, an they go mostly up an down:

Note man in red suit. Obviussly not a Spy.

They hav lots ov old walls mayde ov stone, to divide up the fields:

Sumtimes the trees hav grown throo the walls. They're a tuff lot, up in Yorkshire, they ar:
I waz worreed that there wer Zulus comin over this hill, but they ternd out to be anuther wall:

Walkin fer miles is hard fer a Bear of littol legs, so they put in gates heer an ther fer us to rest on:

It can even be exorstin fer the sheep:

eevn the yungsters:

Tomorro I'll tell yu a bit abowt the town we stayd in, an wat Grayum did on holiday (not much).

Bye fer now!

The Cheeky Kinsley Skwirrol

Yesterday's scores:
  • Gills: no
  • Simpsons: yes
  • Tesco: no
  • Nose Hugs Surprizisity Score: 9.5/10
  • Day Score: 7 it was very hot, so I mostly stayd in the shayde an soopervized stuff/10

HULLO NOT-A-BEARS!

I shall continew wiv my holiday de-pant. (Hehehe. OK, de-breef.)

On anuther day, we went to a playse calld Kinsley. This is it:
It has a spring an lots ov cleer warter, so they hav lots ov fish calld trout. They grow them. An wen they ar big enuff, they catch them an sell them in ther shop. Heer ar sum ov the fish, blissfully ignorant an thinkin they ar alreddy in fishy heven:
Anuver thing they grow is skwirrols.

In England, we yewst to hav lots of red skwirrols. But lots ov yeers ago, sumwun let their pet grey skwirrels from Merryka out into the wild. Now we hav mostly grey skwirrols ownly (but they ar still nice, an I go an feed wun in the park at home. He's calld Charlie.) This is becos the grey wuns ar better at findin food (this is wy they ar fatter) an also they carry a bug that red wuns get hert by.

At Kinsley they grow red wuns in a safe enclozure. Wen ther is a medsin to fite the bug, red skwirrols grown like this will be let into the wild so weel hav lots ov red wuns agen. Horray!

Most ov them wer shy, but this littol fella poppt out to say hello an waz kwite cheeky:
I thort he lookt a bit weaselly (but in the nicest possbol way): He let Mummy stroke his nose:
But mostly he liket eeting:
Mummy took this wun (mor eeting) to show his toes. She's obsesst wiv toes, that wun:
Then we walkt up the hill to the woods, wich waz good timing as I waz burstin. Unfortunately the woods lookt a bit too wet fer a small Bear in need ov a good poo:
so I jus had to leeve my mark another way (hehehe):
I fownd a soft patch behind a bush layter on, wen the others wer in the shop. Wen I cayme bak, I sor Mummy being pesterd fer a bit ov lunch:
Did YU kno that geese lyke sammon keesh an parsnip crisps? No, neither did I.

Mor tomorro!

Bye fer now!

p.s. I think Dilly is startin her holiday blog today. As I sed befor, doo go, but remember, yu'll never get those minits bak. Hehheeee...
